MBA and PGDM differ from each other in their very essence. This can be understood further as:

1. Difference in the terminology- As the name of the degree suggests, an MBA stands for masters in business management whereas a PGDM stands for a post-graduate diploma in management. While the former is a post-graduate degree, the latter is a diploma.

2. Academic differences - While MBA is more theoretical in nature, a PGDM is more technical, which exposes one to real-life business circumstances. Another difference between the two is that a PGDM’s curriculum is upgraded more frequently in order to be inclusive of the changing trends in business management. Both approaches differ drastically.

3. Difference in the curriculum - The syllabi of MBA degrees does not always change in accordance with the changing times due to the different stance of different universities, but PGDM’s are more autonomous in nature. A PGDM’s syllabus is very dynamic in accordance with the changing times. They keep up with the changing trends of the industry.

4. Global preference- In India as well as abroad, both MBA and PGDM have an equal weightage as both the degrees fully equip the students to have a better understanding of the market. More than anything, it is the reputation of the institution that matters in the longer run. The goodwill that an institute carries is of more significance, as it acts as a trademark of excellence in quality and academics.
